Exploring the Viability of Blended Learning for EMI Teacher Training in Taiwan: Opportunities and Challenges

This study investigates the feasibility of transitioning English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) teacher courses in Taiwan from traditional face-to-face formats to blended learning models. Given the demanding schedules of educators, the current face-to-face delivery method poses significant logistical challenges, including travel time and accessibility. By examining the potential benefits and drawbacks of blended learning for EMI teacher training, this paper aims to identify effective strategies for implementation. The research includes a review of existing literature on blended learning practices, surveys of teacher preferences, and case studies from similar educational contexts. Findings suggest that a wellstructured blended learning approach could enhance participation and improve teaching outcomes, thereby promoting professional development among English teachers across Taiwan. The study also highlights critical factors to consider in designing and delivering blended EMI courses, paving the way for a more flexible and inclusive training environment.
