Four-Port DC-DC Converter for Hybrid Energy Systems

Traditional hybrid energy system designs rely on individual DC-DC converters for each energy source, leading to increased costs and system complexity. Multi-input converters (MICs) present a more efficient alternative which simplifies system architecture, reduces number of components, and lowers costs. This paper proposes a four port non-isolated MIC, which is compact and cost-effective integrating multiple energy inputs and battery storage. Proposed MIC offers a versatile power solution that operates in both buck and boost modes as well as assists charging and discharging of battery. It minimizes the use of passive components, enhances power efficiency, and reduces current and voltage stress on the power switches. The analysis of the proposed converter includes voltage gain, power loss, efficiency, and stress under various operating conditions. Simulation results confirm the improved performance of the MIC in terms of cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and system reliability.
