Electrodynamic Suspension Design and Force Measurement of Rotating Conducting Disk facing Electromagnet

This paper presents the measurement of dynamic force of attraction of an electromagnet facing a rotating aluminium disk. The work is aimed to the physical realization of force of repulsion for the design of electrodynamic suspension (EDS) scheme for Hyperloop system. Thus this paper highlights the basic principles and theoretical derivations of EDS. The force vs. current and force vs. air-gap profile has been evaluated analytically using 3D Fourier transform and through FEM analysis. EDS can be tested before real time application using rotating disk. This gives a confidence of using it for real time dynamic suspension at high speed. This work will lead to practical implementation of EDS. Suitable force measurement methods has been investigated. A comprehensive understanding of the principles of electrodynamic suspension system has been presented.
