State of Charge Estimation and Constant Current Constant Voltage Charging of Lithium Ion Battery for Electric Vehicle Applications

This paper investigates State of Charge (SoC) estimation and Constant Current-Constant Voltage (CC-CV) charging techniques for Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries for Electric Vehicles (EVs) applications. SoC estimation is critical for monitoring battery performance, ensuring safety, and extending battery lifespan. The study examines various charging strategies and power levels, focusing on the onboard charging of a $48 \mathrm{~V}, 20 \mathrm{Ah}$ Li-ion battery. Additionally, the CCCV charging strategy is analyzed for its ability to balance charging speed and battery longevity. Results show that integrating precise SoC estimation with the CC-CV charging method enhances energy efficiency, reduces charging time, and minimizes degradation. MATLAB simulations identify the optimal charging method, emphasizing SoC estimation, a critical function of Battery Management Systems (BMS). MATLAB/Simulink are conducted to evaluate their practical applicability, emphasizing importance in developing robust BMS frameworks. SoC estimation techniques are reviewed, including model-based methods, Kalman filters, Coulomb counting, and data-driven approaches. Also, investigate the future perspective of data-driven batteries for EVs applications.
