Predictive Current Control of a Three-Level Multi-Modular NPC Converter With Mutual Error Compensation and Fault Tolerance

This paper presents a novel finite control set modelbased predictive current control strategy of a three-level multimodular Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) converter applied to a three-phase isolated load. The control strategy allows for reducing the steady-state error of the output current of the NPC converter. In addition, the method provides fault tolerance in the absence of one of the NPC modules, making it possible to keep the power delivered to the load constant. The results are presented by comparing the proposed strategy with the classical predictive control applied to the same system. Figures of merit, such as mean square error and total harmonic distortion, are evaluated and finally, the system response to fault tolerance.
