The Next Chapter of Automotive Displays and Human-Machine Interface (HMI)

This paper examines the transformation of the automotive cockpit as displays and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) become central to the in-car experience. Driven by shifts in OEM-panel maker collaboration, user interface strategies, and disruptive technologies such as OLED and Micro LED, the display ecosystem is moving beyond traditional tier structures. The analysis highlights the growing role of panel makers in Tier 1-level integration (FIDM/+) and the importance of safety-first, multi-modal UX design. Stretchable displays and AR HUDs are previewed as future pillars in immersive cockpit design.
