Edible Wireless Capsule Sensor for Sensing Gastric Digestive Function By Electromagnetic Response of Split-Ring Resonator with Vegetable Sheet

In this study, we propose an edible sensor to evaluate digestive function by gastric peristalsis. This sensor was fabricated by depositing a patterned edible gold layer to firm split-ring resonators on the surface of a vegetable sheet. Gastric peristalsis is estimated from the change in the strength of electromagnetic response of the edible sensor. In this experiment, we evaluated the wireless function of the edible sensor in the stomach-mimicking environment and the difference in the response strength of the sensor due to changes in the distance between the edible sensor and the antenna. This research is expected to contribute to the early detection of gastrointestinal diseases including stomach diseases.
