Dual-Channel Multiframe FFT Processing for Precise Multisignal Detection in Closed-Space RF Environments

In the realm of modern wideband receiver standards, the efficient frequency spectrum utilization is paramount, driven by the demands for high data rates, reduced latency, and enhanced connectivity. However, the challenge of detecting multiple signals in closed spaces introduces significant complexity, requiring solutions capable of isolating and analyzing overlapping or closely spaced signals in environments with dynamic and unpredictable signal behavior. Addressing these challenges necessitates advanced methodologies and cutting-edge technology, such as Xilinx’s state-of-the-art radio frequency system-on-chip (RFSoC), which integrates high-performance processing and RF capabilities to enable real time, high-resolution signal analysis. This article presents a novel frame-based dual-channel fast Fourier transform (FFT) design tailored for the simultaneous detection of three signals without prior knowledge of their characteristics. The design achieves this with a minimum frequency separation of three bins (11.72 MHz) and a baseline signal strength requirement of 30 mVpp. The dual-channel FFT operates with two distinct sample rates while maintaining a consistent offset between them, effectively leveraging the strengths of RFSoC for high-speed data acquisition and parallel processing. The individual FFT spectra from both channels provide accurate frequency detection, even in scenarios involving closely spaced signals or overlapping spectra. Comparative analysis with MATLAB simulations validates the reliability and precision of the proposed design and highlights the synergy between innovative FFT algorithms and RFSoC technology to tackle the inherent challenges of closed-space multisignal detection, paving the way for enhanced capabilities in wideband receiver applications.
