Direct Magnitude and Phase Measurement in an Inductorless Integrated Vector Network Analyzer for Wideband Ambient Environment Sensing

This paper presents an integrated magnitude and phase detection system within a fully integrated Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) architecture in 45RFSOI technology, enabling wideband sensing up to 30 GHz. The core contribution lies in the on-chip amplitude and phase detection, eliminating the need for external processing. A dual-path demodulator stage is implemented, where logarithmic amplifiers provide precise magnitude measurements, and a phase detector ensures robust phase extraction. Post-layout simulations confirm an 88.9 dB dynamic range and reliable phase detection across the frequency band. The effectiveness of the proposed detection system is demonstrated through one-port calibration, as well as reflection measurements on an LC resonant circuit.
