Process Simulation as a Basis for Process Mining in Intralogistics

Process mining and process simulation are well-established tools in process optimization. Process mining can provide unique insight into a process and thus show where processes are best optimized. Process simulation, meanwhile, excels in testing different variants or setups, often with minimal effort, compared to a real-life implementation. Thus, both tools have a great potential for creating synergies when used together. Especially in the field of intralogistics, it can be challenging to provide a data set that is suitable for process mining and, when a possible optimization is found, to put it into practice without interrupting the business operations. Thus, this paper explores the possibility of simulating intralogistics processes with the purpose of using them specifically for process mining in order to set up an optimization pipeline.
