ElderConnect: An AI-Powered Platform to Empower Seniors Against Cyberthreats

Social engineering attacks continue to exploit human vulnerabilities, with older adults being particularly at risk due to limited digital literacy and a reluctance to report incidents. Our work addresses this concern by developing an accessible, AI-driven platform, Elder Connect, that empowers elderly users to recognize and defend against threats such as phishing, vishing, baiting, and pretexting. Exploring AI’s potential in future cybersecurity solutions, our research emphasizes its seamless integration into the daily lives of senior citizens. The platform features a user-friendly interface and an intelligent chatbot for real-time, judgment-free support. It also includes tools for verifying suspicious URLs to prevent phishing and brushing attacks, along with a feature that assesses the authenticity of social media profiles to help users avoid fraudulent interactions. Informed by community surveys, the design reflects the specific concerns of elderly users, with plans to expand into mobile accessibility and host hands-on cybersecurity workshops. By integrating AI and machine learning into a supportive digital environment, this initiative represents a significant step toward bridging the cybersecurity awareness gap among older populations and fostering a safer online experience for all.
