Modeling & Comprehensive Analysis of CIGS based Solar Cell using Cadence Virtuoso

This study describes the simulation of an equivalent circuit for copper-indium-gallium-selenide (CIGS) based solar cells using Cadence Virtuoso software. The ideality factor (n) and dark saturation current (Io) were identified from the current-voltage (I-V) data of a reference CIGS solar cell design. Following this, the diode was modeled in Verilog-A, taking into account parameters such as short-circuit current (Isc), open-circuit voltage (Voc), series resistance (Rs), shunt resistance (Rp), irradiance (G), and dark saturation current (Io) within Cadence Virtuoso. This modeling aimed to examine the electrical characteristics of the solar cell, including both I-V and power-voltage (P-V) characteristics. Additionally, the impact of temperature variations on the electrical characteristics of the solar cells was successfully analyzed. Furthermore, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and fill factor (FF) were determined, and both were found to be higher than those of silicon-based solar cells.
