Joint Subband Full Duplex Operation for BS and UE in 6G system

Time division duplex (TDD) is a mainstream duplex mode of 5G,but comes with a drawback of limited coverage and capacity of uplink. Subband non-overlapping Full Duplex (SBFD) at base station (BS) side in 5G-Advanced has been proposed as an efficient scheme to solve this shortcoming by allowing the simultaneous transmission of downlink and uplink into different frequency resources within a TDD carrier. However, User Equipment (UE) half-duplex operation remains the latency bottleneck due to non-simultaneous transmission and reception. To satisfy the requirements of 6G usage scenarios, including immersive communication and hyper reliable and low-latency communication, joint SBFD operation for BS and UE is particularly significant for 6G system. In this paper, the feasibility of SBFD operation at UE and the self-interference cancellation schemes are presented. The system performance benefits of joint SBFD operation system is provided along with the key solutions for standard design of 6G system to support joint SBFD operation.
