IoT and Mobile App Integration in a Smart Pill Box for Enhanced Health Management

Increasing health awareness has led to a rising trend in supplement consumption for well-being. Health issues such as high cholesterol, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases affect individuals across all age groups, necessitating adherence to prescribed medication and supplement schedules. This study proposes a Smart Pill Box to provide timely reminders for medication intake. The system integrates components such as the ESP8266 NodeMCU for wireless communication, Arduino Nano for system control, Micro Limit Switch for pill detection, Buzzer-PCB Mount for alerts, LEDs for visual cues, LDR Sensor Module for ambient sensing, and DS3231 RTC Module for time tracking. The graphical user interface (GUI) is developed using MIT App Inventor, with data storage managed via Firebase Realtime Database. The smart pill box connects to a mobile application through Wi-Fi, ensuring real-time synchronisation with cloud data. This innovation aims to enhance medication adherence and promote better health outcomes, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
