Utilization of Landfill Gas For Electricity Production

During disposing of municipal waste, sludge and gas (methane) are generated, which have a high energy value. The amount of generated landfill gas is predictable and calculable according to the developed mathematical models. The aim of the paper is to make an estimate of the obtained electricity based on the released methane at an open landfill. By applying software and an appropriately adjusted model, predictions have been obtained for the production of landfill gas, released energy, while considering the possibility and justification for its use as electricity over a longer period of time, in appropriately selected plants.
