Double-Primary With Segmented-Secondary Linear Induction Motor for Mining Industry Conveyor Systems

This work presents an innovative linear drive for belt conveyors specifically designed for the mining industry. The drive consists of a linear induction motor with a segmented secondary, which is mounted on the conveyor belt. The electrical characteristics and thermal behavior, obtained experimentally, are included in this work. Simulations results, which covered both electromagnetic and thermal aspects, are presented alongside the experimental test results. A methodical approach was employed to assess the traction force of the motor as a function of the voltage applied to the phase to obtain data at the blocked-secondary test. The ore-loaded conveyor belt was also evaluated through experimental tests in a loop-mounted system. The effectiveness of the system and the characteristics of this pioneering drive mechanism are also discussed.
