High Frequency 1 MHz 72 W Forward Converter with Active Clamp and Synchronous Rectifier Based on GaN Multichip Power Micromodules

The paper presents the results of development of a high-frequency high-efficiency forward converter with an active clamp and a synchronous rectifier based on power GaN multichip power micro modules designed for use in autonomous power supply systems. The main requirements for the converter were formulated, the choice of the converter topology was substantiated. Configurations of power half-bridge and synchronous rectifier GaN multichip power micro modules schematics and ceramic substrate configuration were presented. The schematics of the power and control circuits of the DC-DC converter were developed. A simulation model of the converter was implemented in L TSpice. As a result of simulation high- frequency voltage oscillations were observed in secondary part of the converter. Optimization of the converter schematics was performed, which consisted in introducing active snubbing circuits for suppression of high-frequency voltage oscillations in synchronous rectifier. The efficiency of the converter was estimated in the entire range of operating voltage, under various loads.
