Investigation of Thermal Properties of Titania and Alumina Coated on Metallic Substrates

Titania and alumina thin film layers were applied onto stainless steel type 316 L and 5083 aluminum alloy substrates for their thermal behavior analysis. This research presents a brief investigation. The steady-state heat conduction testing method served to determine quantitatively the thermal insulation performance of the materials. The tested ceramic coatings showed substantial improvement in protective efficiency against heat, indicating their possible use in aerospace environments alongside maritime applications. The improved resistance to corrosion, coupled with better mechanical endurance, illustrates that these coatings can provide multiple functionalities during demanding operational requirements. Research results provide crucial knowledge regarding how titania and alumina coatings provide thermal management benefits in challenging industrial applications.
