Environmental Pollution Level Monitoring System Using UAV

Air quality is an important indicator of public health, as well as for vegetation and local ecosystems. This article showcases the development of a small-size UAV with a dedicated payload containing environmental sensors, such as PM1 (the concentration of particles smaller than $1 \mu \mathrm{m}$ that are suspended in air), PM2.5, PM10, NC0.5 (the concentration of particles smaller than $0.5 \mu \mathrm{m}$ that are suspended in air), NC1, NC2.5, NC4, NC10, temperature, pressure, humidity and CO2. The results obtained following a flight covering a surface of $300.000 \mathrm{m}^{2}$ in the near vicinity of an intensely circulated highway show that the levels of micro-particles are eight times greater than the levels recommended by WHO (World Health Organization). The novelty is represented by the acquisition methodology through the covering of areas of up to 100 ha and the dedicated payload capable of measuring up to 13 different parameters every two seconds.
