Agile Frequency Synthesis for a sub-100µW Wake-up Receiver

We propose an agile frequency synthesis strategy, specifically tailored for a 2.4 GHz low-power wake-up receiver, integral to a healthcare-focused Internet of Things (IoT) system. The system incorporates an ultra-low power receiver, designed to be compatible with healthcare-oriented medical devices, and facilitates connectivity to various sensors and actuators through a dedicated controller. The wake-up receiver (WuRX) architecture is characterized by the inclusion of an LC oscillator and a ring oscillator, which is energized by an RF-Energy Harvester (RF-EH), thereby achieving the desired ultra-low power solution. The RF energy harvester, in conjunction with the oscillators and the mixer, is engineered using 65nm CMOS technology. Simulation outcomes validate the frequency generation strategy for a wake-up receiver that operates on a 0.75V energy harvester.
