Ultrasonic Guided Wave-Mechanical Impedance Cooperative Detection of Damage in Long Multi-Core Cables

Many different fields make extensive use of multicor e wire architectures. It is difficult to quickly and precisely ident ify and evaluate their health without interrupting normal work. This study integrates the localized sensitivity of electromechan ical impedance technology with the benefits of ultrasonic guide d wave wide-area detection to facilitate effective damage identif ication. Initially, a coupling mechanism featuring a ring-type $\mathbf{m}$ ulti-point array is employed to position piezoelectric transduce rs, thereby mitigating the impact of guided wave coupling amo ng cable strands. This approach allows for the preliminary iden tification of intact sections and those necessitating further scrut iny based on response echoes. To establish a baseline, impedanc e response data is collected from the undamaged area, eliminati ng outlier data. Ultimately, by continuously gathering impedan ce measurements within the target zone, the severity of damage is evaluated. Experimental findings indicate that the presence of damage significantly alters the characteristics of the affected areas. The proposed methodology effectively pinpoints the dam aged regions and accurately delineates the damage information.
