Smart IoT-Based Substation Control System for Enhancing Lineman Safety

This paper highlights the critical need to ensure the safety of electrical linemen, who are often exposed to live wires and face a high risk of electric shock during maintenance work. Many of these accidents can be avoided through effective coordination between linemen and substation control room personnel. To address this, the proposed system utilizes an Arduino-based Bluetooth mobile application that allows linemen to remotely communicate with the control room. When a fault is detected, the lineman can send a command to safely disconnect the power supply. After completing the repair, another command is sent to restore the line. This solution not only enhances worker safety but also contributes to energy conservation by reducing unnecessary power loss during maintenance.
