Innovative Approach to Decentralized Self-Managed eSIM D2D Device Migration With Minimal Carrier Intervention – A Framework

The eSIM (embedded SIM) technology allows users to connect their user equipment to mobile networks without the need for a physical SIM card. There are several challenges associated with this new technology in terms of scompatibility, security, activation complexity, limited availability and challenges in eSIM transfer. In this paper, we propose a novel solution to transfer the eSIM from one device to another with minimal operator involvement. The proposed approach suggests securely exchanging the necessary credentials from old to new device over the air. This allows a smooth transition of eSIM, which is extremely helpful if the gadget is stolen / broken. We start by presenting an overview of eSIM, discuss its main features, compare it to the physical SIM card, and specify the main characteristics of each vertical market, proposing our novel solution and conclusion with future scope at the end.
