Real-Time Hazard Detection: An Integrated Arduino based Septic Tank Monitoring System

This paper examines the effectiveness of a novel septic tank monitoring system utilizing Arduino and MQ-2 gas sensors. The primary objective is to enhance safety and improve maintenance practices for residential and commercial septic systems. The proposed system integrates ultrasonic sensors for measuring water levels and gas sensors for detecting harmful gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), smoke (Sm), methane (Me), and propane (Pr), creating a cohesive and efficient monitoring solution. The results demonstrate that the system effectively identifies critical water level thresholds and hazardous gas concentrations, triggering alarms to prevent overflow and mitigate potential health risks. These findings indicate that the system can significantly reduce risks associated with septic tank malfunctions and hazardous gas emissions.
