Test Method for Inertia and Damping of Wind Virtual Synchronous Generators under Off-grid Conditions

Virtual Synchronous Generator technology has emerged as a pivotal advancement in renewable energy generation control in recent years. By emulating the droop characteristics and rotational inertia of traditional synchronous generators in conventional power systems, this technology endows renewable energy generation systems with the essential attributes of conventional generators. Currently, research on the virtual inertia and damping coefficients of converters lacks methods for calculating and identifying multiple parameters using voltage and current information under off-grid conditions. This paper proposes a measurement method for determining the inertia and damping parameters of grid-forming wind turbines, specifically designed for testing under off-grid conditions. This method relies solely on the external characteristics of the virtual synchronous machine, ensuring that it is not influenced by control parameters. The accuracy of the proposed method is further validated through simulation studies.
