Architecture of a Ground-Penetrating Radar Adapted with SDR for Disaster Situations

In disaster situations, it is common to find collapsed structures, and people may be inside them, requiring safe rescue. In these and other situations, ground-penetrating radars can be used to detect relatively safe paths for rescuers and victims. This article presents the architecture of a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) based on a Software Defined Radio that promises greater flexibility than traditional ones (better image definition and greater penetration). The architecture is composed of a software subsystem (processing), a hardware subsystem (Software-Defined Radio), and an antenna subsystem. The partial results obtained in the hardware subsystem and in the antenna subsystem allow us to infer that the architecture of a GPR based on Software Defined Radio could present better performance than traditional GPR.
