Electric Spring and Dump Load Combination for Voltage and Frequency Stabilization in Isolated Systems

In this article, the critical load is directly coupled to a delta-connected capacitor bank and a 22 kw Self excited induction generator. Back-to-back converter is used, where the shunt side of the BTBC is interfaced using a parallel insertion transformer, and the series side of the BTBC is connected in series with a non-critical load to form an electric spring. The primary focus of this work is to mitigate the rise in voltage range across non-critical loads when the voltage requirement for critical loads is either zero or very low. The loads are divided into two categories: noncritical loads, which can tolerate some voltage fluctuation, and critical loads, which are voltagesensitive. Here, advancements have been achieved by draining excessive electricity when it appears that the vital load consumes little or no power utilizing an electronic load controller. The main problem occurs when the electric spring perceives that CL requires zero or very little voltage, which causes the voltage across the NCL to climb above the nominal value. Therefore, a dump load is employed at the DC link of the back-to-back converter to limit the rise in voltage range across NCL and address the aforementioned issue. The MATLAB/Simulink environment is helped to the model and simulate the working model, and the OPAL-RT 4510 series is used for verification. Two distinct control strategies-the shuntside control algorithm and the series-side power management control algorithm-have been developed for this purpose.
