SmartCap: Real-Time Synchronized Subtitles for Videos

This paper introduces SmartCap, an innovative system that produces word-level animated subtitles with precisely synchronized wording to improve video accessibility. We utilize high-performance offline speech recognition and advanced video processing to provide real-time captioning with high accuracy. We show substantial performance gains over conventional approaches through extensive experimental evaluation, with perfect word error rates and synchronization in controlled settings. The system’s novel combination of offline processing, resourcefulness, and high levels of customization facilitates key requirements in educational, entertainment, and assistive technology applications, providing a viable solution for the increasingly digital media world.
