Research on the Practice of Information Technology-Assisted TCM English Teaching Based on the Production-Oriented Approach

Objective: This study aims to explore the application effect of an information technology-assisted TCM English teaching model based on the Production-Oriented Approach (POA) among Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) major students in medical colleges and universities, providing empirical evidence and practical reference for the reform of TCM English teaching. Methods: An experimental research method was adopted, selecting 117 second-year students majoring in Acupuncture and Tuina (classes 1-4), divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group used an information technology-assisted teaching model based on POA, integrating online and offline resources and arranging output tasks based on real scenarios; The control group adopted a relatively traditional teaching mode, focusing more on the imparting of knowledge and the passive acceptance of students. Teaching effectiveness was assessed through course assessment scores and a five-point scale questionnaire survey. Results: The pre-test showed no significant difference in English application ability between the two groups (P>0.05). The post-test revealed that the experimental group had an average score of 80.06, while the control group had an average score of 76.61, with a significant difference (P<0.05). The questionnaire survey showed that the experimental group scored higher than the control group in learning interest, effectiveness, classroom participation, content and language integration, and breadth of teaching content (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in content depth (P>0.05). Conclusion: The TCM English information technology-assisted teaching model based on the Production-Oriented Approach can significantly enhance teaching effectiveness and strengthen students' language practice abilities. This model allows students to learn in real contexts via project-based learning and information technology, overcoming the shortcomings of traditional teaching.
