Multiple Physical Quantity Sensing and Logical Operation Realized by Electromagnetically Induced Absorption

This article presents a 1-D magnetized indium antimonide (InSb) layered photonic metamaterial (LPM), configured as a coupled bright–dark mode structure to achieve electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA), governed by a magnetic field logic gate. The external magnetic field enables precise control over the absorption peak’s amplitude and frequency, allowing the realization of and logic operations. In addition, the two-oscillator model is employed to confirm the validity of the EIA effect generated by the engineered bright–dark mode structure. Furthermore, by varying both the material’s refractive index and thickness, sensing function can be achieved through strict adherence to and logic. The refractive index range of the detectable material spans from 2.4 to 2.8, with average values for the quality factor (Q), figure of merit (FOM), and detection limit (DL) being 265.5, 4.308 RIU−1, and 0.0117 RIU, respectively. Notably, the refractive index of cadmium red lithopone falls within this range, allowing the LPM to effectively detect refractive index changes for potential applications in optical coatings systems. For the thickness between 0.4 and $0.8~\mu $ m, the average values of Q, FOM, and DL are 283.21, $3.753~\mu $ m−1, and $0.0135~\mu $ m, respectively. The LPM presented not only facilitates the EIA logic gate but also enables the detection of various physical quantities, thereby offering notable research value in the field.
