Development Process of an Interdisciplinary Framework to Approach Data and Information Problems in Healthcare – Preliminary Results

This paper presents the development and preliminary evaluation of a framework prototype designed to address data and information problems in healthcare. Based on the ISO 9241-210:2019 standard, the framework was tailored through an iterative, interdisciplinary approach involving initial evaluations with students (n=14) and evaluations with experts (n=6) from IT security, computer science, ethics, and user-centered design. Key adaptations were made to address healthcare challenges, such as a more profound problem understanding, stakeholder engagement, and/or interdisciplinary collaboration, areas not explicitly covered in the original standard. The evaluation with student groups showed that most students found the framework prototype promising, appreciating its structured approach to addressing data issues. However, improvement was still needed. Based on this feedback, the framework was adjusted to improve user support and clarity. The evaluation with experts within a research project in its early stages, focusing primarily on IT security and exemplary evaluation in a healthcare setting, using standardized and custom questionnaires and field diary observations, showed particularly high supportiveness, efficiency, and simplicity rates. However, there were suggestions for improving clarity, novelty, and the inclusion of more detailed guidance. The field diary highlighted the effectiveness of iterative collaboration and the need for further direct stakeholder engagement to refine the framework. Overall, the framework prototype suggests a concrete and practical approach for interdisciplinary teams to tackle complex data and information problems, bridging gaps in the standard.
