Assessing the Robustness of FHRP-EIGRP Protocol Against DoS Attacks in High-Traffic Networks

Denial of Service (DoS) attacks can disrupt user activities on the internet, making it crucial to maintain network reliability and availability. Redundancy protocols like Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP), and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) are essential for maintaining active networks and reducing DoS attacks. This study test a high traffic TCP-UDP data with and without DoS attacks, and revealed that combining VRRP and EIGRP is more efficient in minimizing DoS attacks or high traffic. The advantages of VRRP and EIGRP include collaboration in determining alternative paths, and load-balancing capabilities, speeding up traffic distribution during link failures.
