Strategic Deployment of Hydrogen with Nuclear-Renewable Synergy: Pathways to Carbon Neutrality and Sustainable Development Goals

This work explores the combination of nuclear-renewable hybrid systems and hydrogen production as a pathway to reach carbon neutrality and support the objectives of sustainable development goals (SDGs). The proposed system integrates nuclear energy, a photovoltaic (PV) system, and wind energy to deliver a consistent and dependable clean energy supply. The assessment examines the system's economic viability by analyzing critical financial indicators, including NPV and IRR, under different scenarios. These scenarios include revenue from both energy production and hydrogen and oxygen sales, which significantly enhance profitability. This study highlights the synergy between wind and PV power, where their complementary generation patterns—wind often peaking at night and solar during the day—reduce variability and maximize energy utilization. Hydrogen integration further strengthens financial performance by adding flexible energy storage and offering additional revenue streams from hydrogen sales, especially during periods of excess energy generation. This enhances grid stability, reduces curtailment, and supports decarbonization efforts. The results highlight the critical role of well-designed policy frameworks, financial incentives, and technological progress in reducing expenses and tackling key obstacles, including the substantial upfront investments and infrastructure needs associated with hydrogen production and storage.
