Simulation of a Waveguide Polarizer Based on a Wedge-Shaped Dielectric Insert with Metamaterial

This paper presents a model of a waveguide polarizer implemented using a section of a rectangular WR-430 waveguide with a dielectric wedge placed inside it. The surface of the wedge is coated with a metamaterial in the form of an array of square split-ring resonators (SRR). The array is positioned at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the waveguide. Each elementary cell of the metamaterial is oriented at an angle of $-\mathbf{4 5}$ degrees relative to the waveguide's longitudinal axis. Computer simulations yielded dependencies for the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and axial ratio (AR) in the frequency range of 2200 to 2400 MHz (Sband). The paper presents dependencies of AR on the meridional coordinate in the $\mathbf{P h i}=\mathbf{0}$ and $\mathbf{P h i}=\mathbf{9 0}$ degree planes. The results demonstrate elliptical polarization close to circular for the propagating electromagnetic wave within the operational frequency range.
