Comparative Analysis of CAN-FD and 10BASE-T1S Ethernet for Time-Critical Applications in Automotive Networks

This paper presents a comparative analysis of CAN FD and 10BASE-T1S and their suitability for time-critical applications in automotive networks. The study includes theoretical evaluations and practical experiments to quantify latency as a key performance metric. It focuses on the forwarding delays of gateways (for CAN FD) and switches (for 10BASE-T1S Ethernet). The results show a significantly shorter switching latency with less jitter for 10BASE-T1S Ethernet.
