Novel eSIM Forensic Framework for eSIM-Enabled M2M and IoT Devices

The rapid adoption of IoT and M2M devices has brought unparalleled connectivity to diverse industries. At the core of many of these devices is eSIM technology, a remotely manageable and embedded solution that has revolutionized connectivity by eliminating the need for physical SIM cards. Modern IoT and M2M devices, such as Vehicle Tracking Devices (VTD), On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and Telematic Devices, feature eSIM profiles that store forensic-relevant information crucial for digital forensic investigations. We proposed and developed the Novel eSIM forensic framework as a proof-of-concept for conducting forensic analysis on eSIM-enabled IoT and M2M devices. By examining the procedural and practical aspects of forensic data extraction from eSIM-enabled M2M devices, we provide valuable insights and methodologies for the forensic community. This research underscores the importance of eSIM forensic analysis, equipping investigators with cutting-edge tools and insights to navigate complex IoT and M2M ecosystems.
