AI-Based Real-Time Vehicle License Plate Recognition: A Deep Learning Approach for Efficient Traffic Monitoring

The importance of ALPR in modern times is significant because it aids the intelligent transportation systems in traffic monitoring, law enforcement, and security. In this paper, a real-time AI-based vehicle license plate recognition system is developed, using deep learning techniques. A proposed system integrating CNN and OCR will allow it to be sensitive to a poor lighting environment with occlusion as well as with diverse plate formats. The model is trained on a diverse dataset for enhancing generalizability and error reduction. Optimized inference via edge computing and GPU acceleration helps in real-time performance. The experimental results exhibit high accuracy, efficiency, and robustness under dynamic traffic scenarios. The paper showcases the ability of AI-driven ALPR systems to enhance road safety, minimize traffic violations, and automate toll collection. Future work includes expanding the dataset for better adaptability and integrating multi-modal approaches for enhanced accuracy.
