Design and Implementation of Guided Medium based Molecular Communication Test Bed

Molecular communication is a new communication paradigm that mimics biological systems that communicate by transferring information through molecules. Conventional electromagnetic waves have limited applications in micro and nano-devices. The studies on molecular communication have demonstrated hopeful outcomes using molecules as information entities in the medium of air. However, limited research has been done on guided medium with fluid as a channel, more specifically, for N-Bit molecular communication. This work presents a molecular communication test bed that makes use of a controlled environment where reliable molecular signal transmission using frequency On/Off keying modulation in fluidic channel, reception using advanced sensing technologies and decoding can be performed without error. Results have been verified in practice and demonstrate the possibility of molecular communication through a guided medium for 1-bit symbols with bit rates of 0.8 bps, 0.45 bps for 2-bit symbols, and 0.08-0.1 bps for 3-bit symbols, maintaining a bit error rate lower than $5 \%$ under lab conditions. In addition, this work inspires subsequent researches on more realistic modelling, analysis, and design of theoretical models and algorithms for such systems.
