Safeguarding Election System using Iris Technology

Iris recognition is one of the most reliable biometric identification techniques due to the uniqueness and lifelong stability of iris patterns. Unlike fingerprint or facial recognition, the iris remains unchanged over time, making it ideal for long-term voter authentication. The proposed system shall eliminate all possibilities of voter fraud, including those of double voting, impersonation, and unauthorized access, through allowing each voter the right to casting only one vote. The system integrates with Electronic Voting Machines EVMs, adding an extra layer of biometric verification. At the polling station, a voter's iris scan is matched against a secure database before granting voting access. Any attempt at multiple voting or unregistered participation is instantly flagged, allowing election officers to take immediate action. Results from experimental tests indicate that authentication system, based on the presented method achieve accuracy rate up to 99.7%, which reduces electoral fraud. We tested the system on a dataset of 4,000 iris scans, and show that the system achieves all of the goals of having reliable, scalable, and efficient large-scale elections. In this regard, this system offers a robust solution to enhance electoral security, transparency, and efficiency.
