Comprehensive IoT-based Health Monitoring and Emergency Alert System

Monitoring the health status of a person, particularly elderly patients, can be challenging. The proposed system automates this task by utilizing sensors to track patient health and transmit data via the internet. The system monitors temperature and heartbeat using the MAX30100 Pulse Oximeter and the LM35 temperature sensor. These sensors connected to a microcontroller interfaced with an LCD display and Wi-Fi module to transmit health information in real-time. Any significant changes in the patient's heartbeat, temperature, or movement are detected and communicated to the user's authorized devices through the Blynk cloud application. This IoT-based health tracking system ensures continuous health monitoring, potentially saving lives by providing timely alerts. Our system, tested using the NodeMCU ESP8266, showed promising results with accurate and swift data acquisition, proving its effectiveness compared to other commercial devices. During the COVID-19 pandemic, such IoT-based tools can be invaluable in safeguarding lives. This system enhances health monitoring by using edge processing and IoT devices for faster, real-time data transmission, improving accuracy and response time for elderly patient care.
