End-to-End Throughput Optimization in Integrated Satellite-IoT and Terrestrial Networks

The proliferation of IoT nodes for remote sensing has led to the use of satellite networks for IoT data transmission. Additionally, bandwidth scarcity have pushed satellite and terrestrial network operators to share spectrum. Hence, interference reduction between satellite and terrestrial networks has become a key research area. This paper investigates the End-to-End (E2E) throughput of an integrated satellite-terrestrial network. We formulate an optimization framework to maximize the E2E throughput under relevant constraints, e.g., IoT node buffer and energy limits, satellite energy constraints, and interference constraints. Our proposal improves the efficiency of the system, as evidenced by a comprehensive analysis.
