Metaheuristic approach to maximizing PV hosting capacity and power loss minimization in distribution systems using GA and PSO

The usage of photovoltaic (PV) and other renewable energy sources has increased dramatically in recent years. To keep up with the notable developments in RES technology, it is essential to evaluate the ability of the existing electricity distribution networks to accommodate RES penetration and determine their hosting capacity (HC). The amount of distributed PV that can be safely and reliably integrated into the distribution system before requiring upgrades or control modifications is known as hosting capacity. This paper presents an optimization-based approach to determining the photovoltaic (PV) hosting capacity of the IEEE 13-bus distribution system. Genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are two optimization algorithms that are used to determine the optimal PV allocation at each bus while lowering system losses and maintaining voltage stability. The outcomes of both techniques are compared to evaluate their respective PV penetration maximizing performance without voltage violation. The research aims to provide solutions for power quality and system reliability as well as knowledge on how best to include renewable energy sources in distribution networks.
