A Survey on User Equipment Power Saving for 5G Communication Systems

UN defined 17 sustainability goals for overall development of the global citizens. In these goals, technological advancement can play pivotal role. The rapid transformation in the field of wireless technologies and the recent deployment of the 5G across globe including India has also open the doors for employments, research and industry-academia interaction in bigger frame. Moreover, with the deployment of 5G technology, the severe challenge is to address the power optimization challenge of the 5G. The power consumption in 5G is more due to higher bandwidth, the use of multiple frequencies in the spectrum and multiple antennas in the devices side. This also opened the door for the research User Equipment Power Saving for 5G Communication Systems. This survey paper explores various power saving techniques such as Discontinuous Reception of paging signal, Wake-up Signalling, Radio Resource Measurement Relaxation and Early Paging for the improvement of power efficiency for the user equipment.
