Increasing Cost Effectiveness in Cement Manufacturing Plant: A Sustainable Approach

This study investigates the consequences of improper railway wagon scheduling in a cement industry and emphasizes the advantages of opting for rail transport over roadways or other modes of transportation. Based on an in-depth site visit to a cement plant in Rajasthan and discussions with technical staff, the research identifies the critical issue of reducing demurrage costs. The paper highlights the financial losses incurred by the company due to neglecting this issue and explores potential solutions developed in collaboration with the company’s team. These solutions aim to ensure efficient wagon scheduling, thereby minimizing demurrage costs and improving overall operational efficiency.
