Advanced Model Predictive Control for Electric Vehicle Synchronous Reluctance Motor Drive

The study investigates the design approach and control system for electric vehicle propulsion using an artificial intelligence-powered synchronous reluctance motor drive. AI-MPC stands for AI-based Model Predictive Controller. A bidirectional DC/DC converter located between the battery and motor drive plays an essential role in ensuring proper DC-link voltage control and boosting capabilities. This maximizes motor performance over a broad operating speed range and effectively recovers regenerative braking energy. The system provides heavy PWM switching control, model reference speed control, and adaptive commutation scheme (ACS) to minimize motor losses. Experimental verification confirms the dynamic and static performance of the drive for varied operating conditions. Finally, the complete performance analysis confirms the efficiency and gains obtained in the developed control strategy and confirms its effectiveness to enhance EV motor drive performance.
