Sustainable Transportation Solutions: Life Cycle Analysis of Emissions Reduction in Heavy Duty Vehicles Under Evolving EU Standards

This paper discusses in detail the operational emissions of Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas HDVs under evolving EU7 regulatory standards and their predicted implementation by 2027. In the operational phase, this paper underlines the high contribution of adjustments to the Electronic Control Unit, which will contribute immensely to defining the most feasible ways of improving key pollutant emission profiles through NOx, CO, and THC. The research shows how these technological adjustments-including the new EU7 standards-will be highly improving environmental performance. Results show that, under these more stringent regulations, CNG vehicles can have a significant NOx emission reduction well below that of Diesel-related environmental performance. This report, therefore, shows a critical connection between altered regulatory regimes and technological innovations for improvement in environmental performance to take place in the transport sector. The conclusions derived from this work are highly instrumental for policymakers, industry players, and environmental strategists in the quest to optimize emission control measures and overall environmental performance for HDVs. The research also feeds into the wider debate on sustainable transport technologies, underlining the need to sustain a technology development roadmap for vehicle emissions control and operational energy use efficiency within regulatory frameworks such as EU7.
