Advanced Sliding Mode Control for Stopping Distance Optimization in IoT-Enabled Antilock Braking Systems

The research study proposes a control strategy to improve the stopping distance of vehicles through integrating Sliding Mode Control (SMC) with IoT enabled Antilock Braking Systems (ABS). The vehicle dynamics, braking forces, and the data obtained from the IoT wheel speed and the condition of the roads are simulated using MATLAB. Through the development of the proposed SMC algorithm for ABS, driving safety is expected to be boosted since right amount of braking force in each driving scenario will be applied. The simulation results depict the proposed method as having less stopping distances as compared to the traditional ABS controllers, making the new method more suitable to work in uncertain and dynamic conditions. It also shows that IoT integration plays a major role in real-time tuning of braking parameters and thus it offers enhanced stopping power.
