Digital simulators are crucial for designing, maintaining, and operating systems across various industries, including the electric power sector. To enhance accessibility and ensure continued relevance and functionality as technology evolves, cross-platform compatibility is essential. Open-source simulators have been at the forefront of innovation, largely due to the collaborative nature of the open-source community. This paper discusses recent advancements in compatibility for EPRI’s open-source Distribution System Simulator, OpenDSS. Key improvements include making the simulator’s source code available in multiple programming languages and developing interactive APIs by expert teams worldwide.
