FilMBot: Towards 100-Euro DIY-Friendly High-Speed Robotic Micromanipulator

Micromanipulation plays a crucial role in biomedical, industrial, and scientific applications, yet high-performance micromanipulators are costly and difficult to reproduce, limiting their broader adoption. In this paper, we address the design accessibility and DIY-friendliness of FilMBot - a recently introduced high-speed soft parallel robotic micromanipulator that combines electromagnetic actuation with a flexible film-based structure. We present the fabrication process, component selection, cost analysis, and system integration methods that enable replication using only basic tools and readily available materials. The result is a fully documented, low-cost (approx. € 100 in materials and € 10 for the manipulator body), DIY-friendly solution aimed at enabling micromanipulation in resource-limited environments such as educational labs, prototyping workshops, and early-stage research settings.
