Orchestration of Sustainable Mixed-Criticality Systems Over Heterogenous Edge Nodes

Industry 4.0 introduces cloud-native technologies to industrial systems, requiring orchestration of mixed-criticality workloads on shared edge hardware. We extend the K4.0s framework with a scheduling algorithm that considers workload criticality, node assurance, and energy efficiency. A method for computing node assurance is validated on two ARM-based platforms using real-time and AI benchmarks. Simulations show that our assurance-aware scheduler improves reliability and reduces energy consumption compared to standard approaches.
